Today on Science Friday, a snail shell with the dead snail in it was shared.
Aaron in Ms. Hallan's class sharedt a half of a turtle shell he found. The shell was completely white. Mr. Barnhill was on hand to to share his knowledge about turtle shells. He pointed out that the shell was white because all its scutes were gone. Scutes are a special type of scale that cover a turtle shell. Today, we looked a collection of feathers found in the woods by a 4th grader. He brought them in and we used the field guides in the Science Lab to identify the species as wild turkey. We think this animal died, leaving the feathers together in one area in the woods. Even though the feathers were likely from one bird, there were several different shapes, sizes, and patterns in the feathers.
